Sacramento, California - The California Supreme Court overturned a ban on gay marriage yesterday by a 4-3 margin. Experts and supporters of the ruling were very careful to clarify the wording of the decision. "This doesn't mean it's okay to have "gay " marriages like, singing Leather and Lace as a couple at the reception or having a cowboy or nautical theme," said Jim Kerstim, a lawyer from Sacramento. "The decision refers to sexuality not really lame sentimental or cute choices done with no sense of irony." 

Some supporters of civil protections for "gay but lame gay, not sexual gay" marriages were disappointed that their cause was not mentioned in the ruling. Francine Gelver, 41, a part time cat shelter volunteer and full time Mom expressed her dismay "What happens to me if I want to renew my vows with my husband but have a doo-wop poodle skirt theme for the wedding and then have the priest say 'Heyyy, sit on it!' after we're officially married? Who's going to protect my rights?" Ms. Gelver then drove off in her car with a "Honk if you hate your thighs!!" bumper sticker.

"It's cultural terrorism," said Gene Lowery, a circus memorabilia collector and retired dentist. "I went to a dear friend's wedding and gave a toast where I sang about how the couple met to the tune of the Brady Bunch theme. Someone in the back of the room said 'Lame' under their breath and I almost broke down in tears."

So as many Californians celebrate today there is a small part of the state that isn't saying "I do" to the court's decision.
