By: Mom's Movie Review
I thought it was going to be really scary. I thought I would be screaming a lot. But I only screamed one time. A one screamer. About a third of the way through the movie I figured it out.
The acting was great. Leonardo DiCaprio delicious looking. His hair in the movie looks terrible because it's from that era. They gave him a bowl cut. He has a tiny bandaid on his forehead. They never explain why it's there. Maybe he had a pimple. Every time I see him I think of Titanic. Him saying, “I'm King of the world”. Wasn't he in a movie with Brooke Shields? The Blue Lagoon?
Leo is a Marshall and he and his partner get sent on a case to Shutter Island which is like Alcatraz. A prison for the criminally insane. Once you get there you can never leave. If they can't cure you, they give you a lobotomy. It takes place in the 50s and they only had one drug – Thorzine. Psychology has come a long way, baby. They're not doing lobotomies anymore, but I know a few people who could use one, let me tell you. It was like an Alfred Hitchcock type of thing. Hitchcock could have made n appearance. He used to have cameos in all of his films.
Editors Note: At this point, my mother spoiled the entire movie by telling me the plot secrets. I can not include most of her review because she gave away the entire thing.
Ooh I'm sorry. You should have told me when we started talking that you haven't seen it!
Well, it's very depressing and it gets worse as it goes. The next movie I go see has to be a comedy because I can't handle it. You could hear a pin drop at the end. It's all based on what he says at the end. That's the key point. I wont tell you what that is.
I would say go see it. 3.5 out of 4 stars. I loved it. I wish it would have come out later in the year so he would be nominated.
