Jon Stewart: Turn Off Fox News
This has gone on long enough. We all just look like a bunch of jackasses at this point, holding rallies to fight the plan to build a mosque, then holding rallies to fight the rallies. (I know it’s not actually a mosque, but writing “nonthreatening cultural center that will include amenities such as a pool as well as a prayer room” is not efficient.) The whole debate has gotten out of hand, and the longer it goes on, the worse we look. If we set out to piss off radical Islams by exposing our own intolerance, then we should all be patting ourselves on the back and high-fiving as we get ready for the next deny-civil-rights-to-some-Americans party.
The bottom line is: we look stupid.
Not the whole country, mind you. Just some of us. Like Fox News. “Wha??? The the most reputable channel in news???” I know, I know. I was shocked, too. A network that dedicates so much time to fear mongering looking foolish? I refuse to believe it. I said good day!
But alas, as Jon Stewart pointed out last night, they’ve upped their game to new heights, going out of their way to condemn radical Islams and the mysterious financial backer behind the Park 51 project.
Oh, and who is this mogul they go out of their way not to refer to by name? None other than Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal: a guy who gets around, gallivants with GW and just happens to be a part-owner of Fox News’ parent company. So as Stewart pointed out last night, the more we watch Fox, the more money he gets. And using what he’s learned from Fox, Stewart put it clearly:
“If we want to cut off funding to the terror mosque, we must, together as a nation, stop watching Fox.”
A valid proposition, Stewart. But where would we get all our unintentional comedy?
Kind of looks like the bad guy from Police Academy 5 in the last one. Obviously let’s get Mahoney on the case.
