The 11 Defining Moments of Derek Jeter’s Career

Yankee captain and New York hero, Derek Jeter, announced that he will retire after the 2014 season. Here's a look back at his career highlights:

April 2, 1995 – Called up to Yankees by George Steinbrenner, who makes the young shortstop wear short shorts and mow the lawn at his house (Yankee Stadium)

May 25, 1996 – After being called a pussy by Don Mattingly, drunkenly gets full-body pinstripes tattoo.

December 25,1997 – Accidentally calls Joe Torre “Dad” upon opening Christmas gift from manager.

September 11, 2001 – Whereabouts unknown.

July 1, 2004 – Dives into the stands to catch a foul ball. Lands awkwardly on fence, losing his virginity.

June 14, 2005 – Accidentally ends phone conversation with Andy Petite by saying “I love you.”

October 11 and 14, 2007 – A-Rod informs him that “snitches get stitches” after he catches Rodriguez making out with his own reflection.

May 17, 2009 – Shows up to team screening of 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' as the only one in costume (leather lingerie over Yankee uniform).

May 18, 2009 – Asks coaches what was with that “Rocky Horror” screening and is promptly told to “stop asking questions, pretty boy.”

May 4th to October 2, 2012 – Writes letter to Mariano Rivera every day, signing each “Your Best Friend, Derek.”

September 11, 2012 – Libyans attack an American embassy in Benghazi wearing Derek Jeter jersey-shirts. Jeter’s whereabouts unknown.
