Old Guy Who Played Saruman In “Lord Of The Rings” Releases Metal Christmas Album

Sir Christopher Lee is a 92 year old man who has done a lot of things in his life, but you probably know him because he played Saruman in Lord of the Rings. If you don ‘t remember who Saruman is, it ‘s the guy who was a wizard, he had that orb-y thing and a staff. He was a bad guy for sure, though, I think. Here ‘s a picture to jog your memory.

Remember me!

OK, now that you remember who he is, imagine that guy, and let me remind you he is NINETY TWO years old, belting out metal versions of popular Christmas carols. Today, Lee released his latest Christmas metal effort ‘Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing” and it ‘s tearing its way through the internet. It sounds weird but he has a unique, operatic but undeniably metal voice (and he emanates Christmas cheer!). Is that something you ‘d be interested in listening to? Well, here is a video that gives you a good sample of what these metal Christmas songs are all about and includes a clip from the new song at the end:

Very very cool. Lee picked up metal in 2010 and has released 2 full length metal albums and this is actually his 3rd metal Christmas EP. So even though he ‘s been at it for 4 years now, he ‘s just now getting some widespread pub for being the most metal old guy in history.

It turns out Lee is just a fascinating man overall, too! If you want to get a small glimpse of a life well lived, peruse his wikipedia page. And watch one of the many videos of him explaining his approach to metal music. They ‘re fascinating. I regret calling him ‘Old Guy” in the headline but as we all know, once you type out a headline its set in stone.
