Twitter has essentially shut down 30 websites in multiple countries that archived deleted tweets by politicians. Twitter did this by denying those sites access to their API, the backdoor interface that allows websites to automatically harvest things like tweets that politicians publish ‘ and then delete. Though the argument could be made that it is a politician ‘s right to delete a tweet, this is a clear blow against accountability. For evidence of that, look no further than some of these deleted tweets prominent politicians made in the last few years.
