A Toast To Champagne’s Ability To Prevent Memory Loss!

Gather ’round, dear reader, and raise your glass. A study from 2013 that has recently been given a second life thanks to the internet says that a glass or three of champagne a week can help prevent cognitive memory loss as we get older. I ‘ll drink to that!

The phenolic compounds in champagne, a jolly compound at that, have been discovered to delay degenerative brain disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer ‘s. The study, which took place at University of Reading, found that the phenolic ‘compounds work by modulating signals in the hippocampus and cortex, which control memory and learning. The compounds were found to favorably alter a number of proteins linked to the effective storage of memories in the brain.” Glug! Glug! Those are a lot of big words, but, to that, I ‘ll drink!

While, of course, scientists recommend we ought not get too sloshed, a few sips of the sparkly might just keep our minds fine tuned for longer. And before I drink to that ‘ our long lives and ye jolly ability to remember what happened during them ‘ let me make a toast!

There once was a lad from downtown
in champagne, his sorrows he drowned
But because of the sauce
Mem'ries went un-lost
All thanks to phenolic compounds!
