Most people don’t know Silence of the Lambs began production with a substantial product placement deal with PepsiCo, which called for Doritos and Pepsi drink products to be featured heavily throughout the film. Several scenes were shot, but the deal eventually fell apart when PepsiCo executives insisted that the famous Hannibal Lecter line, “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti,” be changed to “I ate his Nacho Cheesier Doritos with some Cooler Ranch Doritos and a nice Cherry Diet Pepsi,” forcing producers to seek financing from Japanese corporation Nihon Shokken Co., Ltd., which used several scenes from the movie in commercials to promote it’s line of BBQ sauces. This is one of the scenes shot featuring Doritos.
Just goes to show that Hollywood really changes people.
