Nostalgia Alert! Remember Elevators?!

Welcome to another edition of Nostalgia Alert!, where we fondly remember great things from the past. Today on Nostalgia Alert!, we look back on ‘Elevators.

Remember elevators?

Metal boxes in buildings, with buttons and doors, that go up and down. Younger millennials may not remember these amazing contraptions, but for those of us a bit older it seems like just yesterday we had elevators.

What a throwback!

Think of elevators as tiny subway cars if a building was a city.

And, looking back, we feel that elevators definitely hold up.

Think of elevators as tiny subway cars if a building was a city. All you had to do was stand inside one and make awkward small talk, and they took you to any floor in the building you wanted to go. It was all the rage.

When elevators came along, they were a game changer. No more scaling tall buildings from the outside using suction cups. No more borrowing from the weird guy who owned the really tall ladder. Working in a tall building suddenly became much less time consuming.

Some day you ‘ll have to explain to your kids what these buttons did!

Everyone has their favorite elevator memories.

Your first kiss in an elevator.

Your first kiss on top of an elevator.

The kid in the elevator who pushed all the buttons, so his parents abandoned him to live there.

That time the elevator broke and you were trapped for so long that you had to take a vote on which passenger you would kill and eat first, but then right before you were going to kill them the doors opened up and it was super awkward.

We remember elevators. And if you ‘ve ever been in one, you remember elevators too.

It was all there. Elevators were part of our childhood. They ‘re part of what turned us into the men and women we are today. Sometimes when I ‘m with my friends I ‘ll say ‘going up? ‘ and we ‘ll all smile knowingly. We remember elevators. And if you ‘ve ever been in one, you remember elevators too.

But, sadly, today ‘s world is all smartphones, laser dildos, fidget hover boards, electronic ice cream, and whatever new version of Atari kids are playing these days. There ‘s no place for such a quaint and simple, but necessary convenience.

Very hard to get to the top without an elevator!

So the next time you tie those suction cups around your hands and prep to climb that thirty story building, look back on elevators. And wish they never went away.

Look out for the next edition of Nostalgia Alert!, where we ‘ll be looking back on shoelaces. We all fall so much now!
