#Breastmilkgate: Alyssa Milano’s Breast Milk Was Confiscated By Heathrow Airport
In a new level of Foucaultian bodily inscription in the name of air travel security, actress Alyssa Milano ‘s breast milk was confiscated by Heathrow Airport. Milano tweeted about the incident, describing how the 10 ounces of breast milk violated the 100ml rule for carry-on liquids when a baby is not present.
(1 of 2) @HeathrowAirport just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces. Gone. Not okay.

(2 of 2) They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????

Milano has in the past not shied away from being a proud nursing mother.

Milano got into a back-and-forth with the Heathrow Twitter account after they replied to her initial tweets about the event. Heathrow tweeted:
‘Hi Alyssa. Unfortunately, without a baby present, the government requires all liquids in carry-ons to follow the 100ml rule.”
To which Milano replied with a series of tweets:
‘They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????”
‘.@HeathrowAirport Why can you test my toiletries to make sure they are safe but you have to throw away my breast milk?”
‘.@HeathrowAirport I was told I would be fine if the baby was with me. Plus, it was less than 5 ounces per container. Why is my shampoo okay?”
‘.@HeathrowAirport I would have happily spread milk in different containers (which I travel with) to comply to those liquid rules. Instead, milk was taken away with no discussion. Shampoo, lotions, etcetera were simply tested and handed back with no issue. Makes no sense at all.”
Milano then pointed out that ironically after she got through security she still needed to pump and so was able to carry on 5 ounces anyway. Unless Heathrow was going to go as far as to actually confiscate her breasts before going through security, they weren ‘t going to stop that!
PS. Another reason it makes no sense – when I got past security it was time to pump again so… I did carry on 5 ounces of breast milk.

And in a final strange twist of events, after landing, Milano reported that the one item missing from her luggage was her hospital-grade breast pump. Coincidence? Or does someone or something at Heathrow Airport have it out for Milano and her breast milk?
PPS. I travel w/ a portable Medela breast pump on the plane. Hoping this is just a weird coincidence but my ‘ http://t.co/i5ocz7W6o2
