Mike Mitchell’s “Just Like Us” art

Artist Mike Mitchell, well known for his “I’m With Coco” image, is considered one of the top digital artists and graphic designers in the world. This Friday, April 6th (7-10 PM), he will open a solo art show at Gallery1988 (Melrose), featuring over 60 different (very) limited prints, which parody many of your favorite pop culture icons by portraying them in very mundane and boring situations. Whether is Mario at a convention (“Furry Con”) or Robin bird watching (“Robins”), each piece is witty and perfectly executed. This show will be online at gallery1988.com starting Saturday, April 7th.

DJ or Star Trek Alien Race?

Who’s ready to play a game? OK, fine, no need to be a dick about it, but I’ll just explain it anyway, see if you’re into it after all. It’s called “DJ or Star Trek Alien Race,” and it’s as easy as it sounds. I’ll give you a name and you have to decide whether it’s a DJ (taken from DJ Mag’s top 100 for 2011) or an alien race featured, or mentioned, on any of the 5 Star Trek TV shows. Sound easy? NOPE. It’s not just dubstep or house that sounds like a UFO landing, it’s also their weirdo space names. We’re not keeping score and if you do, you might need to take a step back in life and get into Yoga or something. Good luck.

10 Pitches For The Next Chipmunks Sequel

Writers Jensen Karp and Lauren Greenberg might not have agents that believe in them, but they do have great pitches for the next Chipmunks movie they want you to read. With Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked out in theaters this week, what better time to run these pitches by you than now.

4 More Pieces of ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Art

Last week we told you about the new show at Gallery1988’s Venice Beach Gallery honoring the classic “Wet Hot American Summer,” which celebrates its 10th anniversary. We all checked out the awesome samples and presumably spent the rest of the day quoting the movie. That’s how it’s done. So how about we do it again. Here are four more.
